WELCOME ANGELO STATE UNIVERSITY’S REPRESENTATIVES TO VISIT AND WORK AT FOREIGN TRADE UNIVERSITY

After 3 years of quarantine due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, direct cooperation with foreign partner schools has come to a standstill for a long time. This has hampered the maintenance of relations and the exchange of information between the partnered universities in joint training programs with foreign countries.

In order to maintain and expand the cooperative relationship with Foreign Trade University, on 09/14/2022, the representative of Angelo State University - Professor Won Jae Lee - Executive Director (Asian Relations) to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, lecturers from the Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice visited and worked directly at Foreign Trade University with Assoc. Prof., Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien - Vice President of Foreign Trade University and the Faculty of International Education’s representative.

Angelo State University (ASU) has been recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the top 15% "Best Universities" in the United States for 14 consecutive years. Angelo State University (ASU) is one of only three to have been named "Best Universities" for 13 consecutive years, among Texas' 53 universities and colleges. ASU's Business College is accredited by AACSB International - The highest standard of quality assessment. There have been no actual sexual assaults and gun-related incidents since ASU's founding year in 1928 while there are more than 2000 CCTV cameras on campus.

Professor Won Jae Lee and Associate Professor., Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien discussed new development directions and the labor market trend in the near future for joint training programs between the two schools. During the discussion, Professor Won Jae Lee shared that: Students transferring to Angelo State University after 2 years of study at Foreign Trade University have an opportunity to choose more MIS (Management Information Systems) majors. When choosing an MIS major in STEM, students have the opportunity to participate in the Optional Practical Training - OTP (working temporarily in the United States) with tenure in the United States of up to 3 years - 3 times as long compared to other majors.

After meeting with the representatives from the University of Foreign Trade, Professor Lee continued to spend time interacting and sharing with scholars of undergraduate programs affiliated with universities in the United States and Canada while answering students' questions about the program. Professor Lee shared that by becoming a student at Angelo State University, those students will have opportunities such as:

• On-campus job opportunities with up to 15-20 hours per week and the lowest salary is $7.25

• ASU students have free access to the university's private buses to get around the city of San Angelo.

• FTU students would have to pay in-state tuition ($9,310, based on 30 credit hours for the 2022-2023 academic year) until graduation, which is greatly reduced compared to the out-of-state tuition and fees ($21,550) typically charged to international students. In addition, students enjoy the following opportunities:

  • ASU Scholastic Award ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 (per year)

  • Free housing during the summer holidays.

After sharing essential information about Angelo State University, Professor Lee's visit to Foreign Trade University ended successfully. Hopefully, the partnership between the two schools would bring the most benefits to the students.
