EUROPEAN PARTY TASK AUDIT SESSION OF INTERNATIONAL HOTEL MANAGEMENT – 4TH COHORT

The hotel and restaurant service industry is among the ones that require a high sense of meticulousness, sophistication, and comprehensive observation. Given this, the International Hotel Management program – Vatel is designed in a way that allows students to get practical experience and be exposed to a professional working environment.

After 1 year of study, students seem to have grown up a lot. This was demonstrated in the “European party management task audit” of 32 students studying in the 4th Cohort, organized at Maison Vie restaurant.

Maison Vie – a French restaurant with 27 years of experience in high-end cuisine was chosen by Vatel as an internship provider for first-year students of the International Hotel Management Program.

The task audit session of Vatel students at FTU has never been easy because the guests are served as general managers and department managers from leading corporations and 5-star hotels in the industry. Specifically, the task audit session on March 23 had the attendance of distinguished judges:  Mr. Christoph Marcel Strahm - General Director of Pan Pacific Hanoi Hotel, Mr. Louis Cancel - Director of F&B at Sofitel Legend Hotel Metropole Hanoi and former lecturer of the program, Ms. Ngo Thi Van Hanh – Human Resources Director for the IHG North Vietnam, Ms. Le Thuy Duong – Human Resources Director of InterContinental Hanoi Westlake Hotel, Ms. Vu Thi Mai – Human Resources Director of Pan Pacific Hotel Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa – Human Resources Director of Lotte Hanoi Hotel, Ms. Le Phuong Thao – Human Resources Director of JW Marriott Hotel, Ms. Dao Thi Hong – Cluster Talent and Culture Manager Novotel Thai Ha. Also, there were lecturers from Foreign Trade University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong – Vice President.

For first-year students, satisfying these demanding guests is not an easy challenge. As the Director of the F&B Department, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, and a lecturer who used to teach for the Vatel International Hotel Management Program at FTU, Mr. Louis Cancel emphasized what makes the success of hotel. Sophistication is what makes the luxury service industry different. Students need to learn to be more observant, and more flexible in handling situations, at the same time maintaining a smile on their faces.

Ms. Ngo Thi Van Hanh - Human Resources Director of IHG North Vietnam, who has been a lecturer of the program since the very first days, also reminded the first-year students about the strict regulations regarding dressing and appearance in the hospitality industry. It can be said that what makes the students of Vatel at FTU stand out is the uniform and professional style.

Students who have just undergone a 6-month internship, not gaining enough confidence, they seem to be so anxious sometimes with the pressure from the distinguished guests that they forgot to smile. Though strict, the guests’ comments were realistic and will be of paramount significance in helping students realize their shortcomings, thus improving themselves and better advance in their future career paths.

In addition, this was also an opportunity for Vatel students to meet and show their talents in front of their future employers from leading corporations and hotels, which are also their upcoming internship locations. “Calamity is man's true touchstone”. All the hardships the students are undergoing will best prepare them to be managers of distinction!

Assoc. Pham Thu Huong – Vice President of the University delivered an appreciation speech to the distinguished guests for always creating opportunities for FTU students to learn from practice. Hopefully in the future, through the training process in close cooperation between the University and future recruiters, the students will advance further and further on their career path.

Once again, congratulations Vatel students on completing the task audit session!
